Introducing a Radical New Book for Digital Video Production and the Internet

loopy

Overview and Need

There is a need to incorporate the teaching of digital audio and video production and distribution into the radio-TV-film/mass communications curriculum. In addition to understanding production for over-the-air and non-broadcast radio and television, students need to know how to write, produce, direct and complete productions for the desktop and interactive media of CD ROM and the Internet. Students need to know how to select and use non-linear audio and video technology and how to adapt the tenets of traditional production to the new technologies and their audiences. It is the students who are really going to discover the future uses for the emerging technologies. Sure, companies will continue to develop software and hardware for a specific purpose, but it is only those students in an educational setting who are truly able to experiment without any prior expectations, without commercial goals, with only the expected curiosity and learning outcomes of the university. It is our students who will become the thinkers, the inventors, the leaders in new communications production, programming and distribution in the future.
